Business Travel Came To A Halt & Never Recovered, Many Hotels In Metro Areas On The Verge Of Failing

The V-shaped recovery isn’t coming for business travel which is terrible since it it so significant to the tourism industry for many metro areas. Tourism is down so much that according to a recent survey only 8% of Americans have taken a trip on business since March and most don’t plan to in the next 6 months either. The troubling part is Thanksgiving is the busiest day of the year for travel and 81% of Americans have reported not traveling for the holidays and that will likely include Christmas. The Airline industry has been on its last legs and with the talking heads telling everyone to avoid travelling home for the holidays and we know these companies have been surviving on bailouts. The direction were going its likely all of the critical enterprises will become state owned enterprises if they can’t survive. Hotels is another segment that has been broken and the two are closely connected. Another study showed the rate of recovery for the entire nation far exceeds that for metro areas and they have seen the largest drop in business and avg. prices
