China has warned the US that the arrival of its warship in the South China Sea can jeopardize negotiations over the disputed area. Kang also urged Washington to correct its mistake and refrain from conducting further patrols. He added that such actions can cause unexpected accidents if repeated. Kang’s comments come after a USS Dewey warship passed close to the artificial islands built by Beijing in the South China Sea. The Pentagon said the maneuver was simply a navigation operation but China considered it an intrusion that undermined its sovereignty and security. Tensions simmer between China, the US, and some regional countries over Beijing’s territorial claims in the South China Sea.
