A senior Iranian foreign ministry official has urged the international community to put pressure on Israel to join the Non-Proliferation Treaty. Gholam-Hossein Dehqani expressed concern regarding the Israeli nuclear arsenal. Dehqani said Israel’s nukes pose a threat to regional and global peace and security. He made the remarks at a conference on the Nuclear non-proliferation Treaty in Vienna. The Iranian official also criticized nuclear-armed countries for failing to abide by their commitments to dismantle the weapons of mass destruction. Israel, a non-NPT member, is believed to have up to 400 nuclear warheads in its arsenal.
