The NATO Secretary General says the alliance is planning to boost its troop presence in Afghanistan. Jens Stoltenberg cited the challenging security situation in the country for the additional deployment. He added that the alliance also plans to increase its role in the fight against terrorism by training local forces. The troops are expected to join the 13-thousand in the Resolute Support mission, which is a train, assist and advise mission. The 28-member alliance is expected to make a final decision on the increase in June. It will also decide on the deployment length that is currently renewed annually.
