  Moscow will respond to Lithuania’s ban on the transit of sanctioned goods to the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad in a practical way, the spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.

  “One of the main questions has been about whether the response would be exclusively diplomatic. The answer: no,” Reuters quoted Maria Zakharova as saying at her weekly briefing. “The response will not be diplomatic but practical.” She did not specify the measures that Russia is planning to take, saying that “they are being worked out in an interdepartmental format”.

  On Tuesday, Nikolai Patrushev, secretary of Russia’s Security Council, also warned Lithuania of “serious consequences” in response to the ban of some sanctioned goods’ transit to Kaliningrad.

  Lithuania insists it has not imposed unilateral restrictions, stressing that they are part of the EU’s fourth sanctions package, imposed as a result of the Kremlin’s invasion of Ukraine.
