    TALKS on Israeli annexation plans will take place in the White House next week, according to Israeli media, with US President Donald Trump set to join advanced stages of the discussions.

    A report in the Jerusalem Post quoted an unnamed US source who stated that Mr Trump’s so-called Deal of the Century team is set to meet on Wednesday to discuss future measures, including the annexation of whole swathes of Palestinian territory.

    Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu had set July 1 as the starting date for the annexation, as outlined in the Middle East Peace Plan he and Mr Trump announced in January. But no formal moves have yet been made in the face of global condemnation and the UN’s warnings that the plans would be illegal. US officials have given Israel the green light to proceed, but insist that moves must be carried out in co-ordination with the White House.

    Huge protests have taken place in opposition to the annexation, including a large joint Arab-Israeli demonstration in Tel Aviv addressed by senator Bernie Sanders.
