Sweden Urges Inquiry into Israeli Violence

  During a parliamentary debate, Margot Wallstrom said it is essential to determine whether Israel was guilty of extrajudicial killings of Palestinians during recent violence in the Palestinian territories. She was referring to at least 155 Palestinians, who have been killed in the upsurge of violence since October 2015. The comments were the latest in a series of statements by Wallstrom that have irked Israeli authorities. Ties between Sweden and Israel soured after Stockholm recognized the Palestinian state shortly after Wallstrom’s centre-left Social Democrats won a parliamentary election in 2014. The Israeli foreign ministry has accused Wallstrom of consistently demonstrating bias against Israel.
