The US military actions against ISIL terrorists actually aim at Russia rather that the Takfiris, says a senior American activist. “If you look at the larger picture, you see that the entire area around Russia is seeing the introduction of more military hardware, more military personnel, and military activity,” Don DeBar told Press TV on Tuesday, also citing the crisis in Ukraine.

The New York-base radio host said sending US forces to battle ISIL in Iraq is an “amazing thing given President Obama owes his election to the perception” that he was against war in the country and said he would pull the troops out.

John Allen, the US coordinator for the so-called US-led coalition against ISIL, said earlier that the coalition aims to “take back Iraq” by providing “major firepower” for an offensive by the Iraqi arm to take back the ISIL-held city of Mosul.

A US Central Command official also told CNN on Saturday that the US military was considering a recommendation to Obama to send ground troops to help Iraqi soldiers fight against the Takfiri terrorists holding parts of the country, including the major city.

The US military actions in Iraq are taken on the pretext of battling ISIL, “a creature of US allies, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Israel with heavy US backing,” DeBar said.

This is either a “repeat of the failed policy in Iraq”, which would worsen the situation there, or is “an attempt to bring some sort of military pressure on Russia”.

“Neither scenario promises a good outcome,” noted the senior activist, calling reintroduction of troops to the country a “bad news”.
