Danes should prepare for three days without power and water, warns the Danish Defense. According to Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen, it is crucial that Danish households can sustain themselves for up to three days in case of a crisis situation. This includes ensuring an adequate supply of water, food, and other necessities. The Danish Emergency Management Agency has released a series of new guidelines to assist Danes in their preparations. It is recommended that there is water available for all household members – including pets. The amount of water should be up to three liters per person per day.

“We need to have water and food to sustain ourselves for three days. We need to make sure we have the necessary medicine and first aid. That we can stay warm when it’s cold. And ensure that we can manage without electricity,” says Troels Lund Poulsen.

When it comes to food, priority should be given to items that can be stored without refrigeration and do not require cooking. Canned goods and crispbread are good examples. It is also important to choose food that the household is accustomed to and enjoys. The Danish Emergency Management Agency emphasizes that a crisis situation can arise from various causes, including extreme weather events, cyber attacks, and sabotage. Although a direct military attack on Denmark is unlikely, the threat of hybrid attacks that could disable the power supply is very real. A well-prepared population will significantly ease the authorities’ work in a crisis situation. Therefore, it is also important to have medications and hygiene products such as toilet paper, hand sanitizer, and tampons in order.
