  Trump has accused the French president of sending mixed signals to Iran – after Macron held phone conversations with the Iranian president in a bid to tamp down tensions with Washington. During the talks the two reportedly discussed the prospects of a meeting between Hassan Rouhani and Trump during this month’s G7 summit in France. This comes as Washington attempts to bring its allies together for a joint maritime operation in the Persian Gulf – aimed at protecting shipping there. So far, Only the UK and Israel have signed up.
