Iran Says Reserves Right to Counter Israel in Persian Gulf
- Press TV Published on Aug 9, 2019
Iran has slammed an Israeli plan to join the US-led naval coalition in the Persian Gulf. Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Abbas Mousavi said Israel’s presence in the strategic area is a clear threat to Iran’s security and territorial integrity. He warned the move will cause tensions and instability, and that, Iran reserves the right to confront such a threat. Mousavi said Tel Aviv and Washington bear responsibility for the consequences of what he called the dangerous measure. He said Iran guarantees the security of ships in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. The US says its proposed coalition seeks to ensure security of oil tankers in the face of what it calls Iran’s threats. So far, only the UK and Israel have agreed to join the patrol.
