The European Union approves an 18-million-euro aid program for economic and social development in Iran. Eight million euros will be allowed to Iran’s private sector. A further eight million euros will go to environmental projects while two million euros will be spent on fighting drugs. It is part of a wider package of 50 million euros set aside for Iran in the EU budget. The aid package is aimed at counterweighting the negative impact of US sanctions on Tehran. The bloc’s foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said in a statement the EU is committed to cooperation with Iran.
