The Canadian prime minister says he warned US President Donald Trump that his country will go ahead with imposing retaliatory tariffs on US goods. Justin Trudeau said Canada will not be pushed around by Washington. He called Trump’s decision to invoke national security concern to impose tariffs on aluminum and steel as insulting. Trudeau was speaking after a two-day meeting of the Group of Seven industrialized nations. Trump and six other heads of state who attended the meeting in Canada failed to find a common ground over their trade disputes. However, the G-7 leaders agreed in their concluding communiqué on the need for free, fair and mutually beneficial trade. They also highlighted the importance of fighting protectionism. Meanwhile, anti-G-7 protesters have held a rally in the city of Quebec.
