Trump to Impose Steel Tariffs on Europe: It Could ‘Destroy’ EU’s Steel Industry

  US President Donald Trump will reportedly impose taxes on European steel and aluminum imports as early as Friday. US media reports suggest last minute talks aimed at preventing the move have collapsed. Trade officials from America and Europe have been holding negotiations for weeks to exempt Europe from the import duties. Earlier, France warned about the consequences of Washington’s move. Germany also said Europe’s response will be firm. Some countries have agreed to import quotas to be exempt from Trump’s 25 percent tariffs on steel imports and 10 percent on aluminum.
