EUROPEAN Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis has urged European Union member states to accelerate the effort for more financial integration in order to protect the institution after Brexit.
–
The EU Financial Stability Commissioner called on the remaining 27 member states to increase efforts to integrate a single market for capital before Brexit becomes official.
–
Brussels is seeking to boost investment flows with the creation of a capital markets union that would eliminate barriers to fund sales and harmonise rules on cross-border transactions. Former Latvian Prime Minister Mr Dombrovskis said: “We need to accelerate the implementation of the capital markets union so European consumers, investors and companies can benefit from deeper and more integrated capital markets.
–
“This is all the more urgent because Europe’s largest financial centre is on the verge of leaving the single market. By the time Brexit happens, the preconditions for a true single market for capital need to be in place.”
