French President Macron to Play Mediation Role Between Iran & US

The French president says he has managed to convince Donald Trump to allow Paris and the United Nations to play a mediation role between Tehran and Washington with regard to the situation in Syria. Emmanuel Macron added that he had proposed to initiate the work of a contact group at the P-five-plus-one level to deal with the crisis in Syria. The foreign ministers of the P-five-plus-one will meet to discuss the group Thursday morning at the U-N. The last major international attempt to resolve the crisis ended in a failure in 20-16. However, Russia, Turkey and Iran have been negotiating separately for months in Astana to try to reduce the violence on the ground by creating de-escalation zones across Syria.
