North Korea has test-fired another ballistic missile, defying intense pressure from the United States. According to South Korea’s military, the missile was fired from an area north of Pyongyang. Reports suggest that the missile test was unsuccessful. This comes as the United States is pushing for tougher sanctions to curb North Korea’s nuclear program. U-S Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said at a U-N Security Council meeting that North Korea is misusing diplomatic ties to further its nuclear objectives. Tillerson also threatened that Washington is prepared to take military action against Pyongyang if necessary. China’s foreign minister, however, urged Western governments to refrain from military means to settle the issue. Wang Yi warned the use of force does not solve differences and will only lead to bigger disasters. Russia also warned that military action against North Korea would be completely unacceptable and would have catastrophic consequences.
