  Citizens panic buy food after warning of national catastrophe 
  Prominent political parties on both the left and right in Germany agree that the government is preparing for mass “civil unrest” that could arise out of the arrival of large numbers of immigrants or as a result of war.

  Many Germans expressed alarm after the German government advised them to ensure they had stockpiles of food and water that could last up to 10 days in the event of a national catastrophe, leading to panic buying and empty shelves.
  –
  That warning formed part of the government’s new ‘Concept for Civil Defense’, further details of which were announced by Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere yesterday.

  Both the Left Party and the right-wing Alternative for Germany party (AfD) reacted to the policy paper by asserting that it was part of plans for the militarization of law enforcement to deal with mass civil unrest.
  –
  “If there are dangers, that threaten our country at that point, it is civil unrest, brought to us by unsatisfied refugees, who have been invited to our country by our government with wrong promises,” AfD spokesman Ronald Glaser told Sputnik.

  Glaser also drew attention to the panic buying of food that has swept parts of the country this week, remarking, “Germans take it seriously. They talk about it in public, and some stores seem to be sold out at the end of a day, which was unlikely to happen until now.”

  Striking a similar tone, the Left Party’s Ulla Jelpke said the government was also gearing up for “civil unrest, strikes and protests,” but that they would be caused by, “The inevitable consequences of ongoing aggressive foreign and neoliberal economic policies, which lead to an increasing impoverishment of many people.”

  Jelpke added that the plan was a sign that Germany was also preparing for a military confrontation with Russia in the near future.

  As we reported yesterday, the Czech government is also warming its citizens to “prepare for the worst” and stock up on food. Firearms sales and sales on non-lethal weapons are also exploding in Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria, and the Czech Republic.
