US to Deploy 1,000 Troops to Poland

  The US president has announced that his country will deploy one-thousand troops and a separate brigade headquarters to Poland. The announcement by Barack Obama comes as NATO shores up its defenses in Eastern Europe. The deployment of the U-S troops is part of a NATO plan to reinforce its presence in the region. The US battalion is one of four that NATO will begin rotating in the region. Three other battalions led by Canada, Germany and Britain will also be deployed to three Baltic states under the NATO plan. The alliance says the deployments are meant to reassure its eastern allies against -a more aggressive Russia. Moscow is strongly opposed to NATO’s expansion in the region.
