A prominent British scholar says she has turned down a $300,000 award from an Israeli foundation as an independent political choice. Catherine Hall, a History Professor at University College London, said she made the decision after long discussions with those deeply involved with the politics of Israel and Palestine. Israel’s Dan David Foundation planned to give Hall the award for her research on Britain and its empire in previous centuries. Her decision appears to be in line with the global movement aimed at boycotting Israel. The international BDS or boycott, divestment and sanctions movement tries to increase pressure on Israel to stop violating the rights of Palestinians.
