Israel Shuts Off West Bank Border for Holidays

  Under the restrictions, Palestinians are banned from entering the occupied territories during the festival of Purim, which is set to begin Wednesday evening. The Israeli army says the measure will remain in place through Saturday. It says the decision was made by the cabinet of Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu, without providing further details. The measure has caused long vehicle queues at the Qalandiya checkpoint near the city of Ramallah. The closure comes as over 200 Palestinians have been killed since tensions began to soar in the occupied territories in October. The ongoing violence has also left 33 Israelis dead, most of them soldiers.
