Turkey’s state-run news agency reported late Thursday that artillery shells QUOTE intermittently target the Kurds near the town of A’zaz in Aleppo province. The Turkish military has been striking the positions of the Y-P-G fighters for nearly a week, defying international calls to end the shelling. Ankara regards the group as an ally of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, P-K-K. The YPG fighters are regarded as a formidable force against the Daesh Takfiri terrorists in Syria. In the latest development, the Y-P-G fighters are said to have advanced to within a few kilometers of a key Daesh stronghold in the northeastern Syrian province of Hasakah.
