US, Ukraine Hold Live-Fire Joint Exercises

  Nearly 300 American soldiers and 900 Ukrainian troops are taking part in the drills held in the city of Yavoriv near the Polish border. The six-month drills dubbed ‘Operation Fearless Guardian’ are seen as the first long-term US training program for Ukrainian forces. Moscow, which has been critical of NATO and US growing military activities in Eastern Europe, has said the drills pose a threat to the peace process in Ukraine. Meanwhile, Russian forces have also held aviation drills in the southern Astrakhan region.
