Russia has warned that Moscow will boost its forces on its Western flank if the United States stores heavy arms in the Baltic States and Eastern Europe. Senior Russian General, Yuri Yakubov said Russia would first add new tanks, artillery and air units on its western border. It would also accelerate the deployment of new missiles in the Kaliningrad enclave and shore up its troops in Belarus. The Defense Ministry official also slammed Washington’s plans, saying that any such move would be the most aggressive step by the Pentagon and NATO since the Cold War. Poland and Lithuania have confirmed they are in talks with Washington on stationing heavy arms in warehouses in the region. Tensions are high in the region between Russia and NATO over the crisis in Ukraine.
