The Palestinian Committee of Prisoners Affairs says Israeli forces have arrested some 161 Palestinian minors since the beginning of the year. That means one child a day. The body added that 30 children under the age of 15 were detained in May. The group says right now 93 Palestinian kids are being held in the Israeli Ofer Prison near Ramallah. Eight of them are serving their sentences while the rest are awaiting trial. The children have reported violence, including physical assault, strip searches and beatings during and after detention. According to the rights group ‘Defense For Children International’, some 500 to 700 Palestinian kids, some as young as 12, are detained and prosecuted by the Israeli army each year. Most of them are accused of throwing stones.
