  Ukraine says it will dramatically increase the number of its conscripts and boost its military budget to deal with an ongoing crisis in the east. The Ukrainian defense minister has announced that it will draft 40,000 conscripts and over 10,000 contract servicemen into the armed forces in 2015. Stepan Poltorak told the parliament that the total number of the armed forces will increase to 250,000. The minister noted that the military budget will be doubled so the army can press ahead with the battle against pro-Russian militias in the east. The two sides agreed on a truce in September. However, they have repeatedly accused each other of violating the ceasefire. About 43,00 people have been killed in eight months of war in Ukraine.
