NATO is mulling over forming high-readiness military units that will cost several hundred million euros a year. The NATO member states are to vote on the plan at this week’s summit in Wales. General Jean-Paul Palomeros, who is responsible for modernizing NATO, says the program leads to a credible defense to confront present and potential threats worldwide. The senior official also stressed that the costs are not colossal compared to total budgets in alliance members. The recent clashes in Ukraine, Iraq, and Syria have provoked NATO officials to strengthen their forces and facilities.
