- US hypocrisy at work in Syria terror: Analyst!
A political analyst has hit out at Washington’s double standards vis-à-vis human rights, censuring the US government for offering training to militants in Syria, Press TV reports.
“The United States is training rebels to execute wounded Syrian army troops and this is a travesty,” Rodney Martin, former US congressional staffer, said in a Wednesday interview with Press TV.
Militants interviewed in a recent documentary, aired on PBS, said they are trained by American trainers in a secret base in Qatar to attack Syrian government troops and vehicles.
“They trained us to ambush…vehicles and cut off the road,” a militant said in the interview, adding, “They also trained us on how to attack a vehicle, raid it, retrieve information or weapons and munitions, and how to finish off soldiers still alive after an ambush.”
The analyst added, “The United States is a state sponsor of terrorism by setting up camps and training persons to execute wounded Syrian military personnel.”
He further touched upon some other similar moves by the US, saying, “These are gross violations of international law as well as gross violations of human rights.”
Damascus has repeatedly said the US and its regional allies have been providing the militants with funding, weapons and military trainings since the outbreak of the militancy in the Arab country. Since 2011, the US has provided the militants in Syria with nearly $300 million in aid.
Reports have also shown that the US Central Intelligence Agency is covertly training the foreign-sponsored Syria militants in neighboring Jordan. Syria has been gripped by deadly violence since March 2011.
