American protesters take to the streets in New York City after a white police officer was cleared in the chokehold death of an unarmed African-American man. People held placards, condemning police brutality across the nation. The protest was held in the city’s Times Square after a grand jury voted not to indict Officer Daniel Pantaleo over the killing of Eric Garner. The decision was made after months of testimony including from Pantaleo. The case turned into a high-profile police violence case after a video of Pantaleo arresting Garner in July became public. The controversial jury verdict comes two weeks after another jury failed to indict a white officer who fatally shot an unarmed black teen in Ferguson, Missouri. That verdict has sparked nationwide protests against police brutality.
