Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has invested billions of dollars into the construction of factories working to develop a COVID-19 vaccine. He revealed the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will select and fund seven vaccine candidates but warned it could take 18 months to develop a safe and effective vaccine. Mr Gates stepped down from the Microsoft board in March to focus on health-related work including the identification and development of coronavirus treatments.
