  An unprecedented blizzard struck Japan Tuesday, smashing records and prompting wide-scale disruptions as many compared it to the recent snowfall bizarrely seen in Southern US states.

  The town of Obihiro, located in the Tokachi region of Japan’s Hokkaido island, reported receiving 1.2 meters (four feet) of snow on Tuesday, breaking previous records by nearly tripling the amount of snow the region typically receives, according to weather researcher @In2ThinAir.
