  It appears to be the Cold War at its peak – which is trending very hot – as the Americans respond to Russian nuclear threats by re-nuking their B-52 strategic bombers.

  Congress is currently considering passing a bill for fiscal year 2025 (starts Oct. 1, 2024) that would equip about three dozen B-52s with “special munitions,” meaning nuclear weapons. With the signing of the START III nuclear treaty, which was signed in April 2010 and entered into force in February 2011, the B-52s no longer carried nuclear missiles, only conventional ones. However, with Russia’s suspension of the treaty in February 2023, the US and Russia re-entered, undisturbed by legal frameworks, a new nuclear arms race.

  But there are also those who oppose the re-equipment of the B-52s with nuclear weapons, for obvious reasons, which have to do with the expected operational service of the B-52s, since they intend to keep them for quite some time.
