Pompeo: Denuclearization of North Korea Priority for US

  US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says sanctions against North Korea will not be lifted without the country’s verified denuclearization. Pompeo made the remarks in Singapore, where a historic summit between U-S President Donald Trump and North Korean Leader Kim Jong-un is set to take place on Tuesday. The top American diplomat said the only acceptable outcome for the U-S is the verifiable and irreversible denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. Pompeo said the US would offer unique security guarantees to convince Pyongyang to give up its nuclear program. He added that the summit will begin with a one-on-one meeting between the American and North Korean leaders which could last for up to 2 hours.
