Israeli Court Approves Demolition of Palestinian Village
- PressTV Published on May 25, 2018
Israel’s Supreme Court has ruled in favor of demolishing a Palestinian Bedouin village in the occupied West Bank. In its ruling, the court said there is no legal justification to prevent the demolition of the village which is home to around 180 residents. It noted that the village was built without the relevant building permits. The office of the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas condemned the verdict saying it was in line with Israel’s policy of ethnic cleansing. The decision is likely to be met with anger by some European governments, which had launched a campaign to save the village. Human rights groups say Israel’s relentless demolition drive is aimed at uprooting Palestinians from their territories and seizing more land for the expansion of settlements.
