Ukraine has put its military forces on high alert amid rising tensions with Russia over Crimea. Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko says he has ordered all military units near Crimea and Donbass regions to be at the highest level of combat readiness. Ukraine’s army has also said it’s been holding scheduled military exercises in the country’s south since Wednesday. This comes after Russian President Vladimir Putin accused Kiev of trying to carry out armed incursions into Crimea. Poroshenko rejected Putin’s accusations, saying they are a cynical pretext used by Russia to make more military threats against Ukraine. The Crimea region rejoined Russia following a referendum two years ago.
