UN Secretary General Ban: Israeli Siege of Gaza, Collective Punishment

  Ban added that seventy percent of the people in Gaza are in need of humanitarian assistance. The UN Secretary General said that over half of young people in Gaza have little or no job prospects or horizons of hope. Ban’s words come a day after Israel and Turkey announced Monday that they have inked a reconciliation agreement to normalize relations after a six-year rift. Turkey claims the deal will largely lift the nine-year Israeli blockade on Gaza. But Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says the regime’s maritime siege of the costal enclave will remain in place. Turkey and Israel are going to exchange ambassadors later this week.
