Germany’s Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier is urging the European Union member states to do whatever they can to prevent the bloc’s disintegration, in case Britons opt to leave the EU. Steinmeier has warned that Britain’s exit from the EU would severely damage the European project. According to the top diplomat, European states bear a joint responsibility to ensure that they don’t fall back into the nationalism of single states. Germany’s Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble has also made a plea for a stronger, unified European Union. He said that no European country would be able to tackle the challenges of the 21st century on its own. Britain is preparing to decide whether to remain in the EU or leave the bloc in a June 23rd referendum.
