A dispute between the United States and China over the South China Sea is heating up. Beijing and Washington have once again accused each other of escalating tensions. Admiral Sun Jian-guo said Beijing doesn’t fear trouble over its territorial disputes in the wake of QUOTE US provocations. Addressing a security summit in Singapore, he added that China will not bear the consequences, nor will it allow any infringement on its sovereignty and security interest. The remarks came after US Secretary of State John Kerry warned China against any attempt to establish an air defense zone over the Sea. Kerry also warned against Chinese construction on a disputed islet. Washington and its allies say the construction of the sandy islands is part of Beijing’s militarization of the international waters. But China insists that the construction poses no threat to the region.
