Lavrov said Turkey’s actions in Iraq are absolutely unacceptable. He said what Turkey is doing deserves far greater public attention from western countries. He was referring to 150 Turkish troops that have been deployed to a military camp north of Mosul since December 2015. Turkish officials said they were there to train local forces and the Kurdish Peshmerga in their fight against ISIL. Baghdad has condemned the deployment and called on Ankara to immediately withdraw the forces. Iraq has also filed an official complaint with the United Nations Security Council over the issue.
