Whistleblower website WikiLeaks claims the US government was behind the recent massive release of financial documents, known as the Panama Papers, to target the Russian president. WikiLeaks said the data leak was funded by the US Agency for International Development and American billionaire George Soros. Millions of documents, held by the Panama-based company Mossack Fonseca, were leaked to a number of media organizations across Europe on Sunday. They revealed how the rich and powerful use offshore tax havens. The documents included papers allegedly showing a suspected money-laundering ring run by close allies of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Kremlin has rejected the allegations.
