A senior Israeli politician calls for dividing Jerusalem al-Quds with more high walls and checkpoints, effectively banishing 200-thousand Palestinians from the city. The proposal by Isaac Herzog, the leader of Israel’s Labor Party, calls for building miles of new concrete barriers to separate 28 Palestinian neighborhoods from Israeli areas and settlements in the city. The plan also envisages reducing the Muslim population of al-Quds from more than a third of the city to about 10 percent. The Israeli politician has defended his plan as a strategy to stop Palestinians from launching attacks against Israeli forces or settlers. Palestinians have reacted to Herzog’s plan, calling it impractical, radical and racist, and also a collective punishment of hundreds of thousands of Arabs.
