Haider al-Abadi made the request in a phone conversation with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. Abadi has described the incursion as a grave violation of Iraq’s sovereignty. Meanwhile Iraqi people gathered outside the Turkish embassy in Baghdad in protest against the deployment of Turkish military forces. On Sunday, Baghdad gave Ankara 48 hours to remove all of their troops from Iraq. But Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Chavushoglu says the troops won’t be withdrawn. The UN Security Council is expected to hold talks later Tuesday at Russia’s request on Turkey’s military operations in Iraq and Syria.
