Petition Calls for End to Israeli Blockade of Gaza

  One year after the end of the Gaza war, a petition pushing Israel to lift its blockade on the Palestinian territory has collected over four hundred thousand signatures and counting. The emergency petition launched by top aid agencies is also urging Tel Aviv to immediately allow essential construction materials to enter the Gaza Strip. Israeli’s 51-day war killed nearly 22-hundred Palestinians and destroyed about 19-thousand homes. The petition says a year after the aggression not a single house has been rebuilt and that a hundred thousand Gazans are still homeless. Organizers say at the current rate it could take up to 17 years to completely rebuild the region. They are also calling on donor nations to fulfill their three-point-five-billion-dollar pledge to Gazans.

  The number of UK petitioners calling for the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu continues to rise. More than 85-thousand people have signed the online petition so far. They demand that Netanyahu be arrested upon his arrival in London in September. The petition, published on the U-K parliament’s website, criticizes the Israeli premier for the massacre of Palestinians during the 50-day war on Gaza last year. The British government has been expected to respond to the demand within a day, ever since it passed a ten-thousand-signature threshold. If the petition collects more than 100-thousand signatures, it must be debated in the UK parliament. Israel has rejected the petition as meaningless.
