The United States is using Ukraine as a “proxy state” to destabilize Russia, a “very risky policy” that is being implemented in other regions as well, a political analyst in Moscow says.
–
The arming of Ukraine by the US “is a policy that is very dangerous because the United States is using Ukrainian lives as cannon gunpowder for the conflict against Russia,” said Andrew Korybko.
–
“What you’re seeing is the United States using Ukraine as a proxy state for destabilizing Russia,” Korybko told Press TV on Wednesday. “But this policy isn’t new, in fact it’s just the Eastern European application of it,” he added.
–
During his State of the Union speech on Tuesday, US President Barack Obama warned Russia about bullying other countries, expressing his country’s opposition to “Russian aggression” in Ukraine.
–
Ties between Washington and Moscow have deteriorated over the crisis in Ukraine after pro-Western forces ousted the country’s president Viktor Yanukovych in February 2014.
–
The US and its allies accuse Moscow of sending troops into eastern Ukraine in support of the pro-Russian forces. Moscow has long denied involvement in Ukraine’s crisis.
–
The US and the European Union have already imposed several rounds of sanctions on Russia, including visa bans and asset freezes.
–
“All in all, this is a very risky policy, very dangerous but it’s not that surprising when one looks at the template the United States has established before, it’s basically a continuation of Cold War games into the 21st century,” Korybko concluded.
