The US military’s top commander says he is considering sending American combat troops to Iraq in the fight against ISIL terrorists.
Dempsey told the House of Representatives armed services committee that the US is actively considering the direct use of its forces in Iraq. He said THAT may be needed during the toughest upcoming confrontations with the militants. The top general’s comments are contradictory to repeated pledges by President Barack Obama that US combat troops will not return to Iraq. The president has authorized the deployment of up to fifteen-hundred additional troops to Iraq to advise and train local forces. This would expand the US military presence to a total of 3,100 forces.
