Anger is rising in Pakistan over Israeli attacks on al-Aqsa mosque compound in occupied Jerusalem al-Quds. At the official level, Pakistan has also denounced the Israeli action and called on the international community to stop Tel Aviv from violating the rights of Palestinians. Pakistani Prime Minister has even issued a statement describing desecration of Al-Aqsa Mosque as an ‘act of terror.’ Nawaz Shaif has also condemned Tel Aviv for flouting international law and violating the rights of Palestinians. The al-Aqsa Mosque and its surrounding areas has been the scene of clashes between Palestinian worshipers and Israeli settlers and troops in the past few weeks. People in Pakistan are increasingly concerned over Israeli plans to change the demographic makeup of Jerusalem al-Quds by constructing illegal settlements, destroying historical sites and expelling local Palestinian population. They support Palestinians’ demand that al-Quds be the capital of future Palestinian independent state and that its Islamic heritage remain intact.
