- Global News
World Health Organization (WHO) director-general Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Wednesday that he was shocked to hear of the attack on a hospital in Afghanistan’s capital, Kabul, on Tuesday. He added that health-care workers should never be a target in any conflicts, and called on all stakeholders and global leaders to prioritize peace and called for a global ceasefire in the time of the pandemic. Dr. Tedros and other officials stood in silence for a minute during the press conference to pay tribute to those killed or injured and all healthcare workers working in difficult situations to save lives. Dr. Tedros also called on world leaders to pay more attention to the health of prisoners during the pandemic, saying he joined leaders from the Global Health and Human Rights institution on Wednesday to urge all political leaders to enhance all prevention and control measures in respect of vulnerable populations in places of dentition. As of Wednesday, over 4.29 million cases of COVID-19 were reported worldwide with over 293,000 deaths.
