  ANGELA Merkel has put ploughing ahead with plans to create an EU superstate at the heart of her coalition deal with the Social Democrats (SPD) as the German Chancellor desperately clings on to power for a fourth term in office.

  The German Chancellor said it was a “new dawn for Europe” as she insisted her coalition deal with the SPD would offer “essential impulses” in reforming the beleaguered bloc. Angela Merkel and the EU face crunch time when SPD members vote on a new grand coalition, which runs to March 2.

  But in an attempt to diffuse fears of a rejection of the deal, which could see her country face another election, Mrs Merkel revealed the coalition agreement was the first such deal to focus on a policy towards greater EU integration. As she addressed the Bundestag, Germany’s parliament, Mrs Merkel revealed her so-called plans to revive the EU, which crept towards the creation a European State of the Union.
