Israeli Settlements Illegal Under International Law

  The European Union has joined the United Nations and the U-S in slamming Israel’s decision to further expand its settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories. The EU’s diplomatic service said in a statement that the plans weaken prospects for a peaceful resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The European Union Action Service added that Israel had broken with its own public statements not to continue settlement building and expansion. On Wednesday, the U.S. State Department strongly condemned Israel and called the construction of new settler units Quote deeply troubling partly because of its timing. Just last month, Washington agreed to give Israel 38 billion dollars in military aid over the next decade. Outgoing UN Secretary-General Ban ki-moon has also condemned the Israel settlement construction. Ban called on Tel Aviv to halt its plan, under which Israel will build up to 300 new settler units and a new industrial zone in the West Bank. All Israeli settlements are illegal under international law.
