  ANGELA Merkel has today vowed to fight for the survival of a hated EU-US trade deal even though more than 100,000 of her own citizens have signed a petition against it.

  The beleaguered German chancellor came out battling for the stricken Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), claiming it would help create jobs in the struggling eurozone. But she risked once again backing an enormously unpopular cause following her disastrous dabbling in the migrant crisis, with countries across the 28-member bloc set to reject the hated pact.

  TTIP has been branded hugely dangerous to social justice in Europe, with critics warning it will undermine democracy and lead to the end of public services. Earlier this month a senior German politician said that troubled talks with Washington over the fine print of the deal had “de facto failed” but today Mrs Merkel signalled her intention to fight on regardless.
